Care parents ,love as possible, time is running

Let there be as much love as possible, time is running

A long time ago, there was a big apple tree. A little boy loved to play with it every day. He climbed on the tree top, ate the apples, took a nap under the tree shadow … They both loved to play with each other. Time flies … the little boy had grown up and he no longer played around the tree every day.

One day, the boy came back to the tree and he looked sad. “Come and play with me!” the tree asked the boy. “I am no longer a kid, I don’t play with trees anymore.” The boy replied, “I want some toys. I need money to buy them.” “Sorry, but I don t have money … but you can pick all my apples and sell them. So, you will have money to buy toys.” The boy was so excited. He grabbed all the apples on the tree and left happily. The boy never came back after he picked the apples. The tree was sad and waited for him coming back.

One day, the boy returned and the tree was very excited. “Come and play with me! “The tree said. “I don’t have time to play. I have to build my family. We need a house for shelter. Can you help me?” “Sorry, but I don’t have a house. But you can cut my branches to build your house.” So the boy cut all the branches of the tree and left happily. The tree was glad to see him happy but the boy never came back since then. The tree was again lonely and sad but it was still waiting for the boy coming back.

One hot summer day, the boy returned and the tree was delighted. “Come and play with me!” the tree said. “I am sad and not in the mood, I want to go sailing to relax myself. Can you give me a boat?” “Use my trunk to build your boat. You can sail far away and be happy.” So the boy cut the tree trunk to make a boat. He went sailing and never showed up for a long time.

One day, the boy returned after he left for so many years. “Sorry! my boy. But I don’t have anything for you anymore. No more apples for you …”The tree said. “I don t have teeth to bite,” the boy replied. “No more trunk for you to climb on.” “I am too old for that now,” the boy said. “I really can’t give you anything … the only thing I have is my dying roots,” the tree said with tears. “I don t need much now, just a place to rest. I am tired after all these years, I just want to settle down,” the boy replied. “Good! The old tree roots would be the best place to lean on and rest. Come sit down with me and rest.” The boy sat down and the tree was glad and smiled with tears …

This story can be correlated with our lives. The tree is like our parents. When we were young, we loved to play with Mom and Dad …When we grew up, we may choose to ignore them and only come to them when we need something or when we are in trouble. No matter what, parents will always be there and give everything they can to make us happy. We may think the boy is cruel to the tree but that’s how some/most/all of us treat our parents.
Indifference towards parents may most of the times be unintentional, most of the times we are so much engaged in our daily routine that we fail to devote time to our most important relation. Let us ensure to break the ice, let us ensure to speak to them atleast for 15 minutes in 24 hours (that’s not much). let there be as much love to them as possible, time is running…

Compassion in Action - - The Dalai Lama

Compassion in Action - - The Dalai Lama

What is it that can motivate some people to overcome The Blind Side they often have towards the sufferings of others, and help them reach out and make the difference they are meant to? Certainly, a major element has to be compassion. Without this necessary ingredient the suffering
of others goes unnoticed by us, or is treated in a light and superficial manner. But, more remarkable is the ability to not only feel compassion, but to put our compassion in action. And, there are unexpected benefits in doing so, which is something Leigh Anne Tuohy discovers when she meets homeless Michael Orr.

Michael didn't intend to be homeless. At a young age he was taken away from his mother who had a drug problem. Though talented and bright, Michael didn't have the kind of opportunities and support he needed from others to help cultivate his unique gifts and skills. One of those skills lay in his shear size, making him an ideal candidate for football, which is why he made it to a top high school. But, without encouragement and support Michael wasn't going to go very far. Compounding the numerous obstacles he faced, he now had to cope with being black in an all white (and mostly prejudiced) school. Thank goodness for Leigh, who found it in her heart to one day reach out and help a complete stranger (Michael) in ways that went far beyond a small hand out.

How is it that some people are inspired to be compassionate and put their compassion into action, while others do not? Surely, we must have the capacity for empathy. We must have enough sensitivity to experience another person's suffering as if it were our own. Or, to put it in the words of beloved spiritual teacher, the Dalai Lama, who wrote the book Ethics for the New Millennium, we need to "cultivate a feeling of intimacy toward all other sentient beings, including of course those who would harm us.. which is likened in the literature to the love a mother has for her only child." This requires the Dalai Lama says a "sense of equanimity toward all others that is not seen as an end in itself. Rather, it is seen as the springboard to a love still greater." And, int his was "we begin to perfect our compassion, [where] neither the other's appearance nor their behavior affects our underlying attitude."

As the ethic of compassion is developed, as seen in The Blind Side, it is done so by overcoming "feelings of partiality," the Dalai Lama states, where if we do put our compassion into action, it tends to be primarily for only those closest to us like our friends and family members. Though the Dalai Lama acknowledges that it is natural to be compassionate first towards those closest to us, he says to really practice the ethic of
compassion we need to go beyond this. And that is why our "essential challenge, as we begin to extend our compassion toward all others, is to maintain the same level of intimacy [toward others] as we feel toward those closest to us."

That is certainly what we see in Leigh. It is not enough for her to simply lend a helping hand to Michael. Her innate compassion is embodied in such a way she is capable of what the Dalai Lama describes above, she feels the same level of intimacy towards him as she feels towards her family. Because of this, Michael becomes part of her family, where he and she are transformed by the positive effects compassion can have upon us. Of course for an act of compassion to be truly worthwhile, it needs to be totally voluntary without any motivation for any other kind of external gain or reward. At one point both Leigh and Michael are forced to examine Leigh's real motivations for reaching out to help Michael. Fortunately, any less than sincere motivations are transcended and compassion in it's truest form is revealed. Because the compassion extended is sincere, both Leigh and Michael are helped along.

How can this be? How is that the person who is compassionate towards another is helped just as much as the one who is the beneficiary of a compassionate act? The Dalai Lama has some clear answers for us. He reveals why compassion (and love) are essential to us all. Some of his reasons for this are as follows:

Why Compassion and Love Are Not Mere Luxuries.

"The more we are compassionate, the more we provide for our own happiness."

"As the source both of inner external peace, they are fundamental to the
continued survival of our species.

On the one hand they constitute non-violence in action.

On the other hand they are the source of all spiritual qualities: of forgiveness, tolerance, and all the virtues.

Moreover they are the very thing that gives meaning to our activities and
makes them constructive.

There is nothing amazing about being highly educated; there is nothing
amazing about being rich. Only when the individual has a warm heart do
these attributes become worthwhile."

When you consider then, how essential compassion is to our lives, you wonder of course why more of us are not motivated to act in the generous manner that Leigh does. Each of us can only ask that for ourselves. And, it could be that The Blind Side acts then as a high ideal for most. Yet, by being exposed to such ideals not only as a possibility, but a reality (The Blind Side is based on a true story), that alone can motivate all of us to reach further in helping to create a more compassionate world. Because if in truth love has no "blind side", but is related to the capacity to be conscious (something the Dalai
Lama talks about), then being conscious of the sufferings of others, and joyfully wanting to reach out and make a loving difference in their lives, can only serve all involved. What better endeavor at this holiday season, or during any season, of our lives. Let's all begin to act in a more compassionate way now.

A light in you which cannot die

There is a light in you which cannot die; whose presence is so holy that the world is sanctified because of you. All things that live bring gifts to you, and offer them in gratitude and gladness at your feet. The scent of flowers is their gift to you. The waves bow down before you, and the trees extend their arms to shield you from the heat, and lay their leaves before you on the ground that you may walk in softness, while the wind sinks to a whisper round your holy head.

Raibatak:
namaste Ashok ji,

one question has been whirling in my mind for past one year. and I thought you would be the right person to ask about it as you are writing mohyal history.

we are called vaid brahmins of bengal, descendants of sen kings, our gotra is dhanvantari.
our kulgrantha said that we came from somewhere in punjab.
then i was surprised to see that is dhanvantari gotra among mohyals and moreover their surname is vaid. i was wondering whether there is any connection, because like mohyals, we also are traditional kings and landlords and abhor priestly duties.
i would be grateful if you give your opinion

Never Give Up! Persist Until You Succeed!

Here is a parable that I would like to share with you today. The author of this great parable is unknown but it is a very well known parable.

A parable is told of a farmer who owned an old mule. The mule fell into the farmer's well. The farmer heard the mule 'braying' - or - whatever mules do when they fall into wells. After carefully assessing the situation, the farmer sympathized with the mule, but decided that neither the mule nor the well was worth the trouble of saving. Instead, he called his neighbors together and told them what had happened and enlisted them to help haul dirt to bury the old mule in the well and put him out of his misery.

Initially, the old mule was hysterical! But as the farmer and his neighbors continued shoveling and the dirt hit his back, a thought struck him. It suddenly dawned on him that every time a shovel load of dirt landed on his back: he should shake it off and step up! This he did, blow after blow.

"Shake it off and step up... shake it off and step up... shake it off and step up!" he repeated to encourage himself. No matter how painful the blows, or distressing the situation seemed the old mule fought "panic" and just kept right on shaking it off and stepping up!

You're right! It wasn't long before the old mule, battered and exhausted, stepped triumphantly over the wall of that well! What seemed like it would bury him, actually blessed him. All because of the manner in which he handled his adversity.

Doors of Wisdom

A King had an only son, a young Prince, brave, skillful
and intelligent. To perfect his knowledge of Life, he sent him to an Old Wise Man.

"Bring Light to my Path of Life", the Prince asked.

"My words will faint away like the prints of your steps in the sand, the Wise Man answered. However, I want to give you some indications. On your Path, you will find 3 doors. Read the rules written on each of them.

An irresistible need will urge you to follow them.
Don't try and get away from them, because you would be condemned to live again, ceaselessly, what you have avoided. I may tell you no more.

You have to feel all this deep in your heart and in your flesh. Go, now. Follow this path, right in front of you. "

The Old Wise Man disappeared and the Prince entered the Path of Life.

He was soon in front of a big door, on which one could read:"CHANGE THE WORLD".

"It was my intention indeed the Prince thought, because if some things please me in this world, others greatly displease me."

And he began his first fight. His ideal, his ardour and his power urged him to confront himself to the world, to undertake, to conquer, to model reality according to his desires.

He found there the pleasure and the dizziness of the conqueror, but no peace in his heart. He managed to change some things but many others resisted to him. Many years passed.

One day, he met the Old Wise Man who asked him:

"What have you learn on your path?"

"I have learnt," the Prince answered, how to discern
what is within my power and what is without, what depends on me and what does not depend on me".

"That's good! the Old Man said. Use your strength to act on what is within your power. Forget what's beyond your power." And he disappeared.

A bit later, the Prince was in front of a second door.
He could read on it : "CHANGE OTHERS".

"It was my intention indeed, he thought. The others are
a source of pleasure, enjoyment and satisfaction, but also, of pain, bitterness and frustration."

And he rebelled against everything that could disturb him or displease him in his fellow men. He tried to bend their characters and to extirpate their defects.

It was there his second fight.

Many years passed.

One day, as he was meditating on the utility of the attempts to change the others, he met the Old Wise Man who asked him:

"What have you learn on your path?"

"I have learnt, the Prince answered, that the others are
not the cause or the source of my joys and my punishments, my satisfactions and my setbacks. They are only opportunities for all of them to be revealed.

It is in myself that all these things have their roots."

"You are right, the Wise Man said. According to what they wake up in you, the others reveal you to yourself. Be grateful to those who make your enjoyment and pleasure vibrate.

But be also grateful to those who create in you suffering or frustration, because, through them, life teaches you what is left in you to learn and the path that you still have to walk."

And the Old Man disappeared.

A bit further, the Prince arrived in front of a door, on
which these words were written: "CHANGE YOURSELF".

"If I am myself the cause of my problems, it is indeed
what's left in me to work on", he said to himself.

And he began his 3rd fight. He tried to bend his character, to fight his imperfections, to abolish his defects, to change everything that did not please him in himself, everything that did not correspond to his ideal.

After many years of this fight, in which he met some success, but also, some failures and some resistances, the Prince met the Wise Man who asked him: "What have you learn on your path?"

"I have learnt, the Prince answered, that there are
things that we can improve, others that resist us and that we can't manage to break."

"That's good!" the Wise Man said.

"Yes, the Prince went on, but I am beginning to be tired of fighting against everything, against everybody, against myself. Won't there be an end to it one day? When shall I find a rest? I want to stop fighting, to give up, to abandon everything, I want to let go !"

"It is precisely your next lesson, the Old Wise Man said. But before going any further, turn round and behold the path covered."

And he disappeared.

On looking back, the Prince saw in the distance the 3rd door, and noticed that it was carrying a text on its back, saying : "ACCEPT YOURSELF."

The Prince was surprised not to have seen this writing when he went through the door, the other way.

"When one fights, one becomes blind, he said to himself. He also saw, lying on the ground, scattered around him, everything he had thrown away and fought against in him: his defects, his shadows, his fears, his limits, all his old worries. He had learnt then how to recognize them, to accept them, to love them. He had learnt how to love himself without comparing himself to the others any more, without judging himself, without reprimanding himself.

He met the Old Wise Man who asked him:

"What have you learnt on your path?"

"I have learnt, the Prince answered, that hating or
refusing a part of myself, it is to condemn myself never to be in agreement with myself. I learnt how to accept myself, totally, unconditionally."

"That's good!, the Old Man said, it is the first rule in
Wisdom. Now you can go back through the 3rd door."

He had no sooner reached the other side, that the Prince perceived far away the back of the second door, on which he could read: "ACCEPT OTHERS".

All around him, he could recognize the persons he had been with all his life through; those he had loved as well as those he had hated. Those he had supported and those he had fought.

But the biggest surprise of all for him was that now, he was absolutely unable to see their imperfections, their defects, what formerly had embarrassed him so much, and against which he had fought.

He met the Old Wise Man again.

"What have you learnt on your path?" he asked him.

"I have learnt", the Prince answered, "that by being in
agreement with myself, I had no more anything to blame in the others, no more anything to be afraid of in them. I have learnt how to accept and to love the others, totally, unconditionally."

"That's good!", the Old Wise Man said. It is the
second rule in Wisdom. You can go back through the second door."

On reaching the other side of the second door, the Prince perceived in the distance the back of the first door, on which he could read: "ACCEPT THE WORLD".

Strangely enough, he said to himself, that I did not see
these words on the first time. He looked all around him and recognized this world which he had tried to conquer, to transform, to change. He was struck by the brightness and the beauty of every thing. By their perfection.

Nevertheless, it was the same world as before. Was it
the world which had changed ?

He met the Old Wise Man who asked him:

"What have you learnt on your path?"

"I have learnt, the Prince said, that the world is a
mirror for my soul. That my soul can't see the world, it sees itself in the world. When my soul is cheerful, the world seems cheerful to it.

When it is overcome, the world seems sad to it. The world itself is neither sad nor cheerful. It IS there; it exists; it is everything. It was Not the world that disturbed me, but the idea that I had of it. I have learnt to accept it without judging it, to accept it totally, unconditionally. "

It is 3rd rule of Wisdom, the Old Man said. You are here now in agreement with yourself, with others
and with the World.

A profound feeling of peace, serenity, plenitude, filled
the Prince. Silence was in him.

"Now, you are ready to go past the last Threshold the
Old Wise Man said, the one that goes from the silence of Plenitude to the Plenitude of Silence ".
