Like every year, the Rohini-Pitampura Mohyal Sabha organizes two picnics which foster the bond between the members through fun filled activities. These are usually held in the months of May and October, in the District Park, Pitampura. Due to the immense heat this season, having a picnic in the open seemed a tough affair and eventually the usual venue was shifted to a swanky air-conditioned Khushi banquet hall, MP Block, Pitampura, pertaining to the extremity of the weather.
Registration Counter- The members marked their attendance at the registration cum reception centre, which was handled ably by Mr. Deepak Mohan, Mr. Amit Chibber and Mr. Neeraj Datta. Amongst the early birds who reached the venue first were Mr. O.P. Mohan (Rohini), Deepak Mehta and Balwinder Vaid, followed by Mr. P.L.Mehta and Mr. J.P.Mehta, President MS Ambala City.
The function was attended by about 175 community members, which was a very pleasant turnout. A happy wave swept through the whole programme as everyone was shielded from the glaring sun in the comfort of the air conditioners. The regular drinks and snacks which were being served were a welcome treat.
The programme started with the traditional recitation of the Gayatri Mantra, post which, Mr. Yogesh Mehta, Secretary of the Mohyal Sabha Rohini-Pitampura, welcomed the guests and the participants of the Milan for having made it convenient to attend the function, in spite of their pressing engagements. He successfully and single handedly anchored the deliberation of the Sabha, which coincidently was his first attempt, and was highly applauded by all.
The guests of honour were given a warm welcome and were presented with mementoes and beautiful bouquets of flowers. Mr. G.L.Datta Josh, Vice-President GMS, was welcomed by Mr. O.P.Mohan, President, MS Rohini-Pitampura, while Mr. D.V.Mohan, Secretary General GMS, was welcomed by Mr. G.L. Mehta, Vice President, MS Rohini-Pitampura, and Mr. J.P.Mehta, Secretary GMS, was welcomed by Mr. P.L.Mehta, Life Member GMS. Mr. Ashwini Bali, Secretary (Public Relations) GMS, was welcomed by Mr. S.K.Datta, Vice President, MS Rohini-Pitampura, while Dr. Ashok Lau, Editor-Hindi , Mohyal Mitter, and Mr. J.C.Bali, member Managing Committee, GMS, were welcomed by Mr. Avtar Singh Datta, Life Member, MS Rohini-Pitampura, and Mr. S.N.Chibber, Patron MS Rohini-Pitampura, respectively.
The guests gave useful insights into the financial and counseling assistance being provided by the GMS for the brilliant Mohyal students. The guests enlightened the participants with their address to them regarding the GMS secretariat.
The guests also took this opportunity to introduce to the participants the discussions and proposals presented at the Presidents and Secretaries meet, held at Mohyal Ashram, Haridwar, on 24th and 25th of April. These were-
  1. Increment of the Widow Pension from Rs. 500 to Rs. 750, keeping in mind the growing expenditures in the present times.
  2. The financial help being given by the GMS to the affiliated Sabhas for organizing Melas, Parivaar Milans, etc. being raised from Rs.5,100 to Rs. 10,000.
These proposals would be put before the GMS managing committee for the final decisions on these matters.
At the behest of Shri Ashwini Bali, bouquets were also presented to Shri. O.P. Mohan, President MS Rohini-Pitampura, by Shri. G.L. Datta Josh and Shri. D.V. Mohan, and to Shri. Yogesh Mehta, Secretary MS Rohini-Pitampura, by Shri. J.P. Mehta and Shri. J.C. Bali, congratulating them on the success of the function.
The various efforts made by the Sabha for the betterment of the community were enlisted by Shri. Yogesh Mehta. These were-
  1. The generous members of the Sabha collected over one lakh rupees for the construction fund of the Mohyal Ashram Vrindavan, and gave it to the GMS for the good cause.
  2. Due to the incessant efforts of the members, the Sabha has the maximum number of life members enrolled, perhaps the highest.
  3. Keeping in tune with the changing times and the growing network of technology, the internet and social networking sites in particular, the Sabha has an easy access online on Facebook with the group Mohyal Sabha-Rohini / Pitampura. It is a huge success as all the members can meet here in the virtual world and not only interact, but also keep a tab on the recent activities of the Sabha.
  4. The monthly meetings are being attended by a large number of members, which is a very pleasant event, as the average attendance has shot up to 50 members.
  5. The members not only show a keen interest in the working of the local Sabha, but also the parent body, GMS. They actively participate in its working and give useful suggestions.
The Association of Youth and Children was given a priority in the function. While the youth was busy in supervising the overall arrangements for the day, the children were kept busy with an innovative quiz and a fun filled game of antakshari. The quiz was devised to test the awareness of the school-going children about their community and their Mohyal roots. It was a learning experience for a lot many people, not only the participating children, when Shri. Yogesh Mehta asked questions regarding the many Mohyal ashrams and Bhawans in India, and the names of the Saptrishis and ‘Goutras’ to which each of the 7 Mohyal surnames belonged. The quiz soon turned into an open house discussion and the history of the Mohyal community was discussed briefly and the ‘Goutras’ were discussed in detail as well. The participants were given special prizes and a gift pouch full of sweets was presented to all the children present, as a token of love from the Sabha.
The jolly spirits were carried on by the various musical performances of the following enthusiasts-
  1. Smt. Prabha Datta, w/o Shri. N.K. Datta, sector 13, Rohini, enlightened everyone by singing a bhajan.
  2. Shri. Rajinder Pal Mohan, Pitampura.
  3. Kumari Shivani Vaid, d/o Shri. Rakesh Vaid, Indra Nagar (Adarsh Nagar, Delhi).
Youth Participation-
The youth of the Sabha came forward and took an active part in the event and helped in its smooth functioning. It is worthwhile to mention the names of some of them who contributed majorly-
  1. Shri. Rajesh Chibber, sector 20, Rohini.
  2. Shri. Deepak Mohan, sector 8, Rohini.
  3. Shri. Amit Chibber, sector 8, Rohini.
  4. Shri. Balwinder Vaid, Rani Bagh.
  5. Shri. Paramjit Datta, sector 8, Rohini.
Tambola-
An interesting game of tambola was enjoyed by the house where the numbers were called out by Mrs. Surbhi Mehta in an animated manner. The game took many turns with various ‘bogies’ and overlapping calls, which made it all the more exciting.
Lucky Draw-
The winner of the lucky draw was decided by drawing lots based on the serial number in the attendance register. This was won by Mrs. Shashi Mehta (Chibber), West Enclave, Pitampura, and she was given a cash prize of Rs. 200.
A sumptuous lunch was enjoyed and appreciated by everyone. Shri Rattan Lal Bajaj (Mamaji), the owner of the banquet, was personally thanked by Shri O.P.Mohan and Shri Yogesh Mehta for providing with a wonderful ambience and amazing food. A bouquet was also presented to him as a token of gratitude for taking special care of the guests and the participants of the function.
Wrapping up the afternoon, Shri S.N.Chibber, Patron of the Sabha, thanked everyone present, on behalf of the Sabha, for attending the Milan in large numbers and making it a huge success with their active participation and keen interest in it. Everyone carried back home a smile from the Grand Mohyal Parivaar Milan.
